WE HAVE THE PROMISE OF HIS GUIDANCE

Psa 32:8

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye."

If there is one thing that I long for it is His guidance. It is so easy to slip into a mode where we take God for granted and do something that God is not in at all. Guidance does not come automatically. We must be constantly seeking His will for our lives. In our text for today we have God’s promise of direction. He shows us how we maintain His guidance.

WE NEED HIS GUIDANCE DAILY

We must maintain His method of instruction. First of all, guidance does not necessarily come by feeling. Prov. 16:25  “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” The way that “seemeth” right unto a man should be avoided. God has promised instruction. God’s instructions are found in His Word. Anything that we do as Christians should be examined in the light of His Word.

Have you ever done something that you thought was right and it turned out bad? I have and without exception I didn’t put it to the test of God’s Word.

When you are seeking His guidance through His Word you will always find a verse that God instructs you with. I call it God “personalizing” His word to me.

When I was called to preach, I didn’t see how this would work. So I did what comes naturally. I said to my self, “God is not calling me to preach, He is calling me to do something else.” Well, I tried other things but they did not satisfy. I prayed “Lord, I can’t even pray in public. How can stand in the pulpit and face a crowd of people?” Well I found a verse of Scripture that spoke to me. This is what it said: 1 Timothy 3:1, "This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work." That verse spoke to me. I knew I wanted to do His will, so I surrendered publicly in my church to preach the gospel. I had peace that I had done His will.

Peace will always accompany surrender to the instructions from the verse God personalizes to you. Colossians 3:15, "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."

Psalms 32:8, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye."

The word “instruct” means “the course of life.” This means that God will direct us in the course of life that we should take. This is a great promise. God is qualified much better than we are concerning what course of life we should take. God promises in our text, “I will guide thee with mine eye.” God has a better vision than we do! He can see around the corner before we get there. He can see what’s on the other side of the hill.

God has a “Way” for all of His children to go. We can only have peace when we find that way. The way begins when we are saved. The first step in the way of God’s leading is to find a New Testament Church and submit to baptism and church membership. The next step is to begin to study God’s Word and be obedient to its teaching. This is the kind of guidance that you will receive from Him. Isaiah 30:21, "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."

May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.

In Christ
